Auditing the Security of a Security Company
Enginsight builds an all-in-one cybersecurity platform for SMEs — monitoring, pentesting and defense, made in Jena. Before UVC Partners led the €6M growth round, PHILIPPS & BYRNE assessed whether the platform holds itself to the standard it sells.
- Sector: Cybersecurity
- Target Geo: Jena, Germany · DACH
- Client Geo: Munich, Germany · DACH
- Deal: €6M growth round
- Assessment: 2024
The Deal
German SMEs are underserved on security — too small for enterprise tooling, too exposed to ignore it. Enginsight’s answer is a single platform that monitors, tests and defends a company’s entire IT setup. UVC Partners led the €6M round, joined by seed + speed, bm-t, Brandenburg VENTURES, Smart Infrastructure Ventures and Talanx.
A security product carries a special burden of proof: the company’s own engineering has to live up to what the product promises its customers. That was the heart of this DD.
Assessment Angles
- Product depth — what the platform actually detects, tests and prevents — versus the category’s marketing language.
- Own security posture — how secure is the security company?
- Architecture & scalability — agent-based monitoring across thousands of customer environments — and what growth does to it.
- Team & organization — engineering depth in a talent market where security expertise is scarce.
- Roadmap — whether the product plan matches where SME threats are moving.
- Defensibility — what keeps competitors from catching up.
What the Target Takes Away
The Enginsight team received a candid, engineering-level readout alongside the investor report — an outside perspective a security team rarely gets to buy.
