"For over a decade I worked in tech as an engineer, CTO and interim CTO across startups and scale-ups. Nearly every Tech Due Diligence I sat through in those years left me frustrated, sometimes angry. They weren't pragmatic. They had no startup DNA. And the questions rarely had anything to do with what would actually make the company grow.
So I made myself a promise. If I ever ran a Tech DD, I'd do it differently: driven by value, built around questions that genuinely matter.
When investors started asking me to run diligence for them, I said yes, and I found the work I'd been looking for. A puzzle with hundreds of pieces, a tight deadline, and one job that counts: find the critical issues, then deliver the answers and recommendations that resolve them.
In 2019 I founded PHILIPPS & BYRNE. Today we're one of the leading tech advisory firms, and we got here on startup DNA. Most of us have founded companies, run engineering as CTOs, and invested our own money as angels. We've sat in the founder's chair and the investor's. That perspective is what sets us apart.
